14-18 years old
Explorers are the fourth section of the Scouting movement. Right from the time of Baden-Powell, there have been arrangements for young people who wanted to continue after their time in the Scout Section, and in 1967, Venture Scouts were formed from the existing Senior Scout and Rover Scout Sections.
During the late 1990s it was decided that, to meet the changing needs of young people, there should be two sections for the over-14s: Explorer Scouts for 14 to 18-year-olds, and the Scout Network for 18 to 25s.
We currently have four Explorer units:
- Caxton (Tenterden)
- Chimera (Goudhurst)
- H.I.V.E. (Hawkhurst)
- Phoenix (Headcorn)
Uniform
The minimum requirement for Explorer Scout uniform for most groups is an official Explorer Scout beige long or short sleeved shirt or blouse, navy blue activity trousers or smart skirt, leather Scout/Explorer belt and buckle, an Explorer unit scarf and a woggle (supplied by the unit on enrollment). Some groups/units may require more though so speak to the leader before buying uniform.
Uniform can be bought from the official Scout Shop.
If you need to know where the badges go on the uniform you can download this diagram.
