The Big Night Out
28th June 2015
Weald District Camp 2015
Over the weekend from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th the Weald District held a camp at Lordship Woods which was attended by over 200 young people from all sections: Beavers; Cubs; Scouts; and Explorers.
It was all a part of an ambitious plan by Kent Scouts to get as many of the county's 20,000 Scouters to camp on the same night - Saturday 27th - and they named the event The Big Night Out!
Our camp included lots of fun and challenging activities:
- Rifle shooting
- Archery
- Caving
- Laser tag
- Assault course
- Minefield
- T-shirt decorating
- Pizza making
- Bug hunt
- Water rockets
- Rope and woggle making
- Nature trail
Some of the Scouts and Explorers arrived on the Friday evening to build shelters for themselves to sleep in over the weekend. Two Explorers even built their own hammocks!
On Saturday evening there was the traditional camp fire where all of us came together to sing songs and perform comedy skits. It was a wonderful atmosphere and gave us all the opportunity to bond as a scouting family and to reflect on the world around us.
Afterwards, while the younger ones where getting ready for bed, the Scouts and Explorers were sent off deeper into the woods to play some wide games.
The whole weekend was a lot of fun but we all - including the leaders - were thoroughly tired out by the end of it.
