Lordship Wood
The Weald District camp-site
The site
Lordship Wood is 23 acres of ancient woodland with a 2-acre field and separate parking area, located two miles from Horsmonden in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The site is designed for traditional Scout camping, and the only facilities are mains water, and a cesspool for the manual emptying of chemical toilets. As a result, Lordship Wood is a "green field" site for Camping Permit purposes.
Nearby facilities
Bewl Water (4 miles away) has a lot of scope for traffic-free walking and cycling in beautiful surroundings. Bikes can be hired and there is a visitor centre and café.
Other places of interest are Bedgebury Pinetum near Goudhurst, the Hop Farm Country Park at Beltring, and a variety of National Trust properties.
There are swimming pools in Cranbrook, Paddock Wood, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells, but you should check the opening times in advance.
Horsmonden and Goudhurst have a range of village shops, and there are supermarkets in Cranbrook, Paddock Wood and Pembury.
Enquiries and booking
All enquiries, please email: LSW@wealdscoutdistrict.org.uk
To ensure that Weald District Groups and Units have priority, bookings for camping for the peak period (Easter to September) will not normally be accepted from elsewhere until the previous January.
Charges
The charge for camping is £1.50 per person per night. A deposit of 50p per person for the expected numbers is required.
Cancellation
If a booking is cancelled at least a month before the camp, the deposit will be refunded. For later cancellations, the deposit will not be refunded.
Keys
The camp leader will be provided with a key which fits all locks (all gates, the mains water inlet valve located underground close to the tap nearest the road, the cesspool access hatch, and the storage container). Please ensure that the water inlet valve is turned off and everything is locked when the site is unoccupied and when you leave.
Hazards
Lordship Wood is an ancient woodland containing natural hazards (dead and dying trees and branches, stumps, brambles, rabbit holes, etc.), and as such should be entered and used with reasonable caution, especially in windy conditions.
Nothing contained in this brochure absolves Leaders from their responsibility to ensure a safe environment for activities, and all normal Scouting rules apply.
